Brooks Boatworks, Typical Custom
Construction
Brooks
Boatworks builds boats in the Carolina Custom Tradition,
one at a time. The work is performed by a small select
group of skilled craftsmen well versed in one off and
composite boat construction. Each boat is tailored to
the specific needs or wants of the customer. Therefore,
construction technique and material of our boats may
vary. These boats will stand up
to the rigors of constant use in the infamous waters off
the North Carolina coast. Their beauty and integrity
will last for years to come.
Typical Construction
of Our Boats is as Follows:
Hull
The hull is built from a male one off mold using
Divinicell, Kledgecell, Airex or Airlite PVC, closed
cell foam core. The stringers are laminated Douglas
Fir using epoxy resin. The hull sides have Douglas
Fir hat section ribands running horizontally, placed
approximately 8” apart. The exterior of the hull
is laminated using epoxy resin and multiple layers
of fiberglass then vacuum bagged or infused for
strength and lightness. The interior of the hull is
done the same way incorporating the stringers and
hat sections into the laminate. The permanent
bulkheads are laminated in the boat using epoxy
resin and two layers of bi-directional fiberglass
tapes. All glass that is not vacuum bagged gets a
layer of peel ply added to the outer surface for a
smooth finish. All boats are faired to perfection
and finished smooth. The hull is painted with
Awl-Grip paint inside and out for high luster and
easy clean up, for many years of service.
Cabin
The cabin is laid out according to
the owner’s preference and is equipped with options
specified by the owners. All cabinets are built
using lightweight material and veneered in fine
hardwood veneer. Lightweight structural material is
used throughout to insure maximum efficiency.
Equipment
The owners also specify the
equipment. Air conditioning, generator ice makers,
refrigerated fish boxes are just a few of the things
we install in our boats. The boats can receive
towers, hard tops, single or twin diesel engines and
even jet drive propulsion. We can outfit the boat
to suit the most discerning fisherman or his
meticulous wife. The details and equipment
possibilities are too numerous to list here. Please
